Device function

You can use and configure the SMA eCharger as a stand-alone device, in combination with a Sunny Home Manager 2.0, or in combination with the SMA Data Manager M.

You carry out the device configuration via the commissioning wizard.

The SMA eCharger must always be configured in the role of System Manager in the commissioning wizard (regardless of which system configuration is selected).

Charging station in stand-alone mode

If the charging station is configured for stand-alone mode, the range of functions is limited. Charging with surplus PV energy or a specified target is not possible. If an energy meter is available and configured, then power outage protection and unbalanced load control are active. The SMA eCharger then adjusts to the values measured by the Energy Meter.

Charging station with Sunny Home Manager 2.0

When the charging station is configured in combination with Sunny Home Manager 2.0, the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 takes over control of the system.
Information: Although the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 is set up as the System Manager, the SMA eCharger must also be set up as a System Manager because it includes a meter as a subordinate device. In this case, only the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 or SMA Energy Meter must be added via the SMA Speedwire device registration. No SMA inverters may be added. SMA inverters are added to the system via the Sunny Home Manager 2.0 and the Sunny Portal.

Charging station with SMA Data Manager M

The SMA eCharger can be added as a Modbus device for monitoring (not controlling) a system with SMA Data Manager M.
Information: This feature is available as of SMA eCharger firmware version 2.5.9.R and SMA Data Manager M (EDMM-10, EDMM-20) firmware version 2.5.9.R.

The SMA Data Manager M supports up to 20 SMA eChargers (20 charging points) via Modbus TCP (monitoring only).
