Setting options for the parallel operation of multiple battery cabinets
Up to four battery cabinets can be connected to one inverter. For systems with more than 1 battery cabinet, use as a secondary battery cabinet (server) must be set on the control panel for each battery cabinet. In the default setting, all battery cabinets are set as the primary battery cabinet (client). The server/client setting is located on the battery cabinet's control panel in the menu SMA Storage XL > Communication > bsmu:
Primary battery cabinet (client): Status = Enabled
Secondary battery cabinet (server): Status = Disabled
The address must be set on each secondary battery cabinet. The addresses must be unique and consecutive. Address 80 is set as standard, which is used for the primary battery cabinet. This means that addresses for further battery cabinets are:
81: first secondary battery cabinet
82: second secondary battery cabinet
83: third secondary battery cabinet
The address setting is located in the menu SMA Storage XL > Communication > bcmu. Under the parameter prot change, click on Modify and enter the address under slave_id.
The number of battery cabinets must be set on the primary battery cabinet. This setting is located in the menu Home > Battery Status Overview > Setting. The number of battery cabinets (2 to 4) must be set in the parameter Cluster Num.. The number takes all battery cabinets into account. If there are three secondary battery cabinets, the number 4 must be selected as the quantity together with the primary battery cabinet.
