Extension of the battery

Battery modules with a firmware version ≥ 1.1.40.R can be extended at any time. A firmware update may be required.

In order to install an additional battery module after initial commissioning of the battery system, always proceed as described in this section.

Procedure:

  1. Check whether the inverter and the battery have the most current firmware version. The most current firmware version can be found on the respective product page on the SMA Homepage.
  2. If the inverter and the battery are not equipped with the most current firmware version, perform a firmware update of the inverter and of the battery (see manual of the inverter).
    Information:
For the Sunny Tripower Smart Energy, the firmware of the battery is integrated into the inverter firmware (observe Release Notes).
For the Sunny Boy Smart Energy, the firmware update of the battery is loaded via the inverter user interface and is not integrated into the inverter firmware.
  3. After the firmware update of the inverter, the firmware update of the battery follows automatically. This can take up to 10 minutes.
  4. Select the menu Events.
  5. Check the events to see whether the firmware update of the battery has been completed successfully (minimum firmware version of the battery: ≥ 1.1.40.R).
  6. Disconnect the battery modules from voltage sources Disconnecting the battery modules from voltage sources).
  7. Mount and connect the additional battery module.
  8. Recommission the system with all battery modules.
