Polystring operation

Polystring designs simplify the planning of PV systems for complex roof geometries that differ in size and orientation of the roof surfaces. With this system design, PV strings with different orientations can still be operated in parallel on a MPP tracker of the inverter.

Requirements:

In addition to the basic requirements from guidelines, standards and specifications, the following points apply for polystrings:

  • Strings connected in parallel must have the same number of PV modules in series, must be of the same technology and have the same MPP voltage.

  • SMA recommends connecting only PV modules of the same type with the same MPP tracker.

  • The series-connected PV modules within a particular string must all have the same orientation.
