Direct selling

PV systems with an installed system power of more than 100 kW commissioned on or after January 1, 2016 are required to directly sell their generated electricity according to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). It must be possible to remotely control these systems to enable central control by the grid operator or by a direct seller. The SMA Data Manager M or any other SMA device that includes an ennexOS System Manager can take care of remote control.

What is direct selling?

Direct selling is defined as being the sale of photovoltaic electricity to third parties through the utility grid. In practice, this is usually done via specialized direct sellers who either resell the electric current to large customers or trade it on the electricity exchange.

Subsidy through market premium

To provide economic support for direct selling, there is the so-called market premium. This compensates for the difference between the average stock price (monthly market value) achieved and the stipulated subsidy value (investable value).

The formula is: market premium (MP) = investable value (IV) – monthly market value (MMV)

If the monthly market value is above the investable value, the market premium is zero.

Direct selling benefits

  • Higher revenue potential through trading on the electricity exchange.

  • Market incentives for technological advancement.

  • Option of the flexible integration of PV current into electricity trading.
