Mixed multicluster systems
During the operating time of battery-storage systems, it may be necessary to replace or add devices. This section describes compatibilities between different system components within Sunny Island systems. It also provides guidance on how to select and replace devices.
The following device types of battery inverters are considered:

SI3.0M-11 / SI4.4M-11 / SI4.4M-13 cannot be used in multicluster systems. US product variants are not considered.
Individual clusters (3 devices, three-phase connected) may only be combined unmixed (by generation) An exception applies to generation B2 and B3.
Generation A | 1 Cluster consisting of 3x SI5048 or |

Generation B1 | 1 Cluster consisting of 3x SI-11 (same type) or |
Generation B2/B3 | 1 cluster each unmixed (of the same type) or consisting of a mix of SI-12 and SI-13 devices (same power classes). In this case, the master device must be an SI-13 device. |
Cluster (3 devices, three-phase connected) can be combined as main clusters and extension clusters.
The latest device types are downward compatible, the older ones are not upward compatible.
In mixed multicluster systems, only the functions of the oldest device generation can be used.
The extension clusters must always have the latest firmware installed. You will find the latest firmware versions at http://www.SMA-Solar.com.
The use of special firmware in mixed multicluster systems is not permitted.
The operation of several unmixed clusters of different generations can be carried out on the following Multicluster-Boxes:

MC-BOX-36.3
MC-BOX-36.3-11
The operation of several unmixed extension clusters (e.g. 1x SI-11 cluster and 1x SI-12 cluster) within a multicluster system is permitted.
Under certain firmware constellations, the following event codes may occur when operating mixed multiclusters, but these do not affect the operation of the system:
"Firmware extension cluster unequal firmware main cluster"
"Synchronization not successful"
