Generating or Changing a Product Key
If you have forgotten the product's password, you can use the product key to create a new one. The product key is stored only on the device. A lost product key cannot be recovered, it can only be recreated. Creating a product key is not mandatory, but is recommended by SMA Solar Technology AG because the product key significantly increases the security of the system.
Generating a product key for the first time
A product key must be generated for each of the groups User and Installer.
Procedure:
- Open the user interface ( > Establishing a connection to the user interface).
- Log into ( > Logging In and Out of the User Interface) the user interface as User or as Installer.
- Select the menu User settings.
- Select [Access rights].
- Select [Product key].
- Enter the specific device secret of the product. Which specific device secret is used and where you can find the specific device secret is indicated on the user interface.
- Click on [Generate].
- A string representing the product key is generated.
- Write down the product key immediately and keep it safe. After leaving this page, the newly generated product key can no longer be displayed. The copy of the product key must be accessible only to you.
Generate new product key
If the product key has become accessible to unauthorized persons, you can generate a new product key at any time. To generate a new product key, the currently valid product key must be available.
Procedure:
- Open the user interface ( > Establishing a connection to the user interface).
- Log into ( > Logging In and Out of the User Interface) the user interface as User or as Installer.
- Select the menu User settings.
- Select [Access rights].
- Select [Product key].
- Enter the currently valid product key.
- Click on [Generate].
- A string representing the new product key is generated.
- Write down the new product key immediately and keep it safe. After leaving this page, the newly generated product key can no longer be displayed. The previously valid product key is invalid after a new product key is generated. The copy of the product key must be accessible only to you.
